About me

Years of experience and a balanced approach to physical therapy

Downey Hinrichs, MSPT, Cert. Schroth Therapist has been a physical therapist for over 25 years specializing in 'boutique therapy' - that is focusing on individual clients and their specific needs.  Downey has been practicing Schroth therapy for over 10 years. She has scoliosis herself and wore a back brace for many years as an adolescent.  In addition, one of her  daughters also has scoliosis and wore a Rigo-Cheneau brace for several years.  She understands that scoliosis is not a disease, but rather a condition that requires management.  The commitment to appointments, exercises and a brace can impact the whole family - not just the one with scoliosis.  She also has first hand experience as a patient, therapist, mother of a child with scoliosis and aging with scoliosis (ugh!).  She understands the benefits of Schroth therapy and the importance of appropriate intervention.  This is not just an exercise program!

Downey graduated from the University of Richmond with a B.A in Health Science and Sports Science.  She went on the the University of Miami (FL) and received her Masters of Science in Physical Therapy.  Her initial specialty was catastrophic rehabilitation, but when her daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis, she began her training in Schroth therapy.  She has completed many courses on Schroth therapy both from the Barcelona School (C1 and C2 certification) and from Axel Hennes out of Germany.
